Europe’s next-generation weather satellite sends back first images
Summary
Europe’s Meteosat Third Generation-Sounder (MTG-S) has shared its first images from geostationary orbit, illustrating how the mission will deliver temperature and humidity data to improve weather forecasting over Europe and northern Africa. The Infrared Sounder captures a full-disk view of Earth and uses 1700 infrared channels to enable three-dimensional atmospheric profiling, enabling improved nowcasting and forecast accuracy.
