Heating homes with the world’s largest particle accelerator
Summary
CERN’s energy project uses heat recovered from the Large Hadron Collider to heat homes and businesses in Ferney-Voltaire. Two 5-MW heat exchangers transfer thermal energy from LHC cooling water to a new local heating network, enabling up to 5 MW of heat with potential expansion; the initiative supports energy management goals and CO2 reductions.
