Electronic skin for prosthetics to sense temperature and pressure
Summary
WSU researchers developed an electronic skin for prosthetics that can sense temperature and pressure with high resolution. The e-skin uses a scan-model-print manufacturing approach for high-density, conformal sensing and aims to provide tactile feedback to amputees; future work includes an actuator to translate sensing into nerve stimulation. The work is published in Cell Reports Physical Science and supported by NSF and WSU, with patent activity in progress.
