Neural chip decodes interactions between brain regions
Summary
EPFL researchers have developed LogSync, a low-power implantable neural chip that records cross-regional brain activity, uses machine learning to extract network-level biomarkers, and can generate stimulation triggers for specific cognitive or emotional states. The work aims to move beyond single-region signals toward distributed brain-network decoding for adaptive neuromodulation in psychiatric disorders, with very low power consumption and co-designed hardware-software optimization.
