Electronic fibers weave touchscreen into sleeve that survives machine washing

Quality: 8/10 Relevance: 9/10

Summary

Scientists at the National University of Singapore have integrated a touchscreen directly into a garment using textile fibers that combine LEDs and touch sensors. The prototype uses 54 fibers with 96 LEDs each to form a 168x105 mm display at 30 frames per second, capable of displaying video and responding to touch, while remaining breathable and machine-washable after 50 washing cycles. The system includes sensing and connectivity features and points to future on-device AI possibilities.
